Has everyone recovered from the game last night? Good thing Canadian medical care is good, cause I’m pretty sure all of Edmonton was nearing a mass heart attack. Despite the odd, but amazing last second win, we lost a couple soldiers yesterday. Let’s get into it.
Jujhar Khaira scored his first NHL goal on Monday night. If he didn’t already have the Oiler fan base behind him before the game, he does now. In his third game with the Oilers last night, J.J took a hit in the corner and came out in pain. He left the game and did not return. Though his early, minor success followed by injury reminds me of a Tyler Pitlick injury, his diagnosis isn’t nearly as bad. J.J will be out indefinitely with an upper body injury. My guess is a strained muscle. Whether the injury is in his back or his shoulder, let’s hope he recovers quickly and keeps up the momentum he’s created from his first couple games with the team.
January 18th also took victim in Matt Benning. Benning fell ill throughout the day and was taken out of the lineup last minute before the Panthers game. With the way Benning has been playing, it was easy to asuume he wasn’t purposely scratched for Eric Gryba, and that something must have been wrong with him. Benning was skating again in morning practice today, and is likely to play against Nashville tomorrow.
Andrej Sekera also left the game against Arizona on Monday late in the third period after blocking a shot. My god if Sekera went on the IR as well I would have lost my mind. There’s a theme every season surrounding our injuries and it is definitely leaning towards defensive injuries this year. Thankfully Sekera was alright and returned to the next game.
Here’s an updated look at our current LTIR group.
Tyler Pitlick is now a member of the 30 day injury club. He’s out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL so if my math is correct, Pitlick’s ‘days injured’ will grow more. A lot more.
Another week has passed, meaning we’re one week closer to seeing the return of Darnell Nurse. Have they injected him with the same hormones McDavid used to quickly heal his collar bone yet? Who’s keeping track of this! If it can fix a collarbone in less than three months it’s got to do wonders on an ankle.
It was a big week for milestones as Iiro hit the 100 day injury mark. As I said last week, Pakarinen has been skating with the team and should be assigned to Bakersfield any week now.
I took the liberty of going back in time, 467 days ago, to when Andrew Ference was injured. Do you want to know how long ago that was?
On October 10, 2015:
  • We were still talking about Ebola.
  • The Hills by the Weeknd was the number 1 song on billboard’s top 100.
  • Rumours were released that Kanye West was thinking about running for speaker.
  • That 5-year old boy was left after daycare on the bus for five hours.
  • North Korea was planning attacks on the United States.
