It was Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who led the charge for the Edmonton Oilers in a Thursday night win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Zach Hyman broke open the scoring in the first frame, and the Oilers never let it slip away.
Both McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal and three assists in the victory with their production coming at key times. The latter assisted on Hyman’s first-period tally, Ryan McLeod’s second-period shorthanded goal, and Leon Draisaitl’s goal in the third. His goal came early in the third.
McDavid, meanwhile, had his goal come against an empty net, with apples on Evander Kane’s second-period goal, Nugent-Hopkins’ third-period goal, and he set up Leon Draisaitl with a beautiful feed for his powerplay goal in the third.
Next up for the Oilers: they take on the St. Louis Blues Saturday afternoon, then the Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night. Edmonton embarks on their first road trip the following week stopping in St. Louis, Chicago and Calgary before returning home.
