This week in 1993 (Nov. 11), the Edmonton Oilers acquired Bob Beers from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Chris Joseph.

After a seven-season stint in Edmonton, the Oilers opted to move on from Joseph after the defenceman broke into the NHL with the club. He originally joined the Oilers in the 1987 Paul Coffey trade and broke in full time the following year.

Over those seven years, Joseph scored 12 goals and 51 points in 154 games.

Coming back the other was another defenceman in Beers and one that brought with him some more offensive firepower. But Beers didn’t last long. In one season in Edmonton, he scored 10 goals and 37 points in  66 games.

Edmonton ended up losing Beers in free agency after the season, as he opted to ink a two-year deal with the New York Islanders.
