This week in 2011 (Feb. 28), the Edmonton Oilers traded Dustin Penner to the LA Kings.

Penner, who joined the Oilers four years prior, cost the Kings Colten Tuebert, a first round pick in 2011 and a third round pick in 2012. Over his four year career playing with the Oilers, Penner scored 93 goals and as many assists in 304 games playing in a top-six role.

His best season in the NHL came with the Oilers, when in 2009-10 he scored 32 goals and 63 points in 82 games.

The Oilers did really well in the trade. While Tuebert, who was a 2008 first round pick, only played in 24 NHL games, the Oilers used the first round pick to draft Oscar Klefbom. He’s gone to play 378 games with the Oilers over the last seven years scoring 156 points.

Edmonton drafted Daniil Zharkov with the 2012 pick, but he never left Russia to play in North America.
