Earlier today over on The Nation Network YouTube Channel on a new episode of Sherwood Ford GIANT Offseason Questions, I took a look at what the next few weeks could look like for Ken Holland and the Edmonton Oilers. We’re inching closer and closer to training camp for the team but the roster isn’t quite finished yet. The Oilers are still facing a cap crunch and there’s no denying that they could still add a few pieces.
Their forward group looks pretty set but I believe they need one or two depth pieces. I shared a few of my favourite targets in the video. I also talked about potential additions to the blueline that this team could make. Holland could decide to roll with players like Broberg, Samorukov, or Niemelainen on the third pairing but I’m a big fan of creating competition in training camp and not just handing young players roster spots. I do think Philip Broberg is capable of handling regular NHL minutes but I think adding a veteran safety net would be a smart move.
Finally, I shared a quick thought on the Patrick Kane rumours that just won’t go away. In short: don’t hold your breath. I think a Kane deal is far more likely to happen closer to the trade deadline. Find more videos like this one over on our YouTube Channel!
