Connor McDavid just put a bow on top of an all-time performance in the Battle of Alberta.
After scoring 11 points in the first four games of Edmonton’s first-round series with the Calgary Flames, McDavid scored the overtime winner to send the Oilers to the Western Conference Final…
McDavid joins Glenn Anderson, Joe Murphy, Esa Tikkanen, Craig MacTavish, and Todd Marchant as Oilers to score a series-clinching overtime goal in the playoffs. Tikkanen is the only other one to do it against the Flames, as he clinched the Battle of Alberta in 1991 one game after Theo Fleury’s iconic overtime winner for Calgary.
The Oilers are now moving on to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2006. They’ll await the winner of the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues. Colorado currently leads the series 3-2.
With two points on Thursday night, McDavid now has 27 points in 12 games in the playoffs, tied with Leon Draisaitl for the league lead. The all-time record for points in a single playoff run is 47, set by Wayne Gretzky in 1984-85.
