When Peter Chiarelli spoke to the media on Friday, he said that he wanted to bring in warm bodies at the deadline in return for whoever was moving out. With the Mark Letestu trade, Chiarelli certainly accomplished that goal by bringing in a prospect in Pontus Aberg that has some AHL success and NHL at-bats under his belt.
When it comes to the return for Pat Maroon, JD Dudek, a lot less is known about the player.
Dudek, a former sixth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils (152nd overall), has spent the past three seasons playing at Boston College. According to the scouting reports, Dudek, a native of Auburn, New Hampshire, is a cerebral player that possesses plenty of hockey sense but still needs to work on his overall game if he hopes to have it translate to the professional level.
This season, the 22-year-old Dudek has appeared in 33 games with the NCAA’s Boston College Eagles, recording 17 points (6G, 11A) and 26 PIMs. In 107 career NCAA games, Dudek has amassed 42 points (20G, 22A) and 60 PIMs. Dudek is expected to play one more year at Boston College before turning pro.
Check out this intrasquad goal that he scored at Devils’ prospect camp. Who knows where this prospect will go from here, but at least he has hands.
