connor clattenburg has certainly been making some noise for the condors this season, as was evident on saturday night.

WWYDW: Should the Oilers call somebody up from the AHL?

The Oilers are having a bad time right now. Their consistently inconsistent run of late is beyond frustrating, and the analytics suggest it isn’t bad luck — that this is actually not a good hockey team.
Last week, we waxed on about our dream goalies and a week later, we don’t have any action on that front. Rats. Dare to dream, Arnold, dare to dream.
Something that’s within Edmonton’s options is using a call-up from the minors to try and shake things up. Which Bakersfield Condor would you most like to call up?
In the iconic words of host John Quiñones… What Would You Do?
Connor Ingram
Fans were excited when the Oilers acquired Connor Ingram, as it was a good flier for the organization to take on a player who needed a change of scenery and to find himself again.
A Daniel Nugent-Bowman piece from The Athletic on Nov. 3 poured into his psyche, taking the job in Bakersfield, as he says he’s “building a foundation on rock bottom.” I think Oil Country is collectively rooting for him as he continues dealing with the grief of his mom’s passing.
Just two seasons ago, Ingram played the lion’s share of games for the Arizona Coyotes, posting a winning record and a .907sv%, a number that seems foreign to the Oilers these days.
However, he hasn’t played well in the AHL. Right now, he’s 1-2-2, with a 4.02GAA and .860sv%.
Would a call-up just to try be worth it to spark himself and the team?
Isaac Howard
They just sent Isaac Howard down, and he had two assists in one game. Pretty darn good. It’s not wise for the Oilers to yo-yo Howard from the National to the A, but would a look with more minutes help the Oilers right now?
I’d be inclined to keep Howard where he is and re-evaluate after Christmas. Let the Iceman cook. The more pro-level reps Howard gets will benefit the Oilers in the long run.
Connor Clattenburg
Connor Clattenburg is playing an absolute throwback brand of hard-hitting, drop-the-mitts hockey that is the exact type of energy the Oilers are missing. It’s the type of injection Zach Hyman was able to give them against Carolina on Saturday.
How often do the no-hitting, non-producing bottom-6 give the Oilers any juice? Clattenburg is raw. But man, who has multiple fights in a game, like he did against Coachella Valley?
This Oilers team lacks a consistent heartbeat that brings them into the battle night after night. Good thing we have seven-and-three-quarter seasons of Trent Frederic to assist in that effort…
Wild Card: Samuel Jonsson
If you’re willing to forego the American Hockey League and want to look wider to the ECHL, look at Samuel Jonsson.
In six games with the Fort Wayne Komets, he’s 5-1, with a 1.64GAA and .926sv%.
It’s just the first season in North America for the 21-year-old, but Jonsson’s made a great impression.
This is a really unlikely selection because the ECHL ain’t the NHL, and it’s really unwise to throw just anyone in the net. But the Oilers could be just that desperate…
What would you do?
So, who has the most to give the Oilers?
Many aspects of Edmonton’s menu aren’t going well: 5-on-5 offence, defensive zone, goaltending… With the players at the team’s disposal in the minors, who would be worth a look to you?
As bad as the Oilers’ goaltending is, tinkering with Ingram right now, and Jonsson in the ECHL, just doesn’t appear to be the move right now. Let Ingram get settled and play good hockey before he faces NHL competition again.
To me, it’s Connor Clattenburg. For a team that lacks engagement in these games, the youngster seems willing to be a human battering ram to earn his keep. Imagine how beloved he would be within minutes if he lays a couple of hard checks, drops the mitts, and becomes a little ball of hate. Give me some Clattenburg.
