I have learned that Jesse Puljujarvi will have season ending hip surgery next week. He went for a second opinion on Tuesday and based on the decision to have surgery, they got the same diagnosis.
It sounds like he should make a full recovery and be skating by the end of the summer.
We will have more info when it comes out, and thankfully this will put an end to the ridiculous assumption that Puljujarvi’s agent only asked for a second opinion so Puljujarvi wouldn’t be sent to the minors.
That would have been extremely unprofessional.
I didn’t understand why his agent would mention a trade the morning of a game when he knew his client was injured. It wasn’t wise in my eyes, but he wasn’t going to advice his client to fake an injury.
But Puljujarvi will have surgery, and hopefully for his sake there are no complications, he has a speedy recovery and will be able to train and come to camp ready to compete for a spot in the top nine.
The Oilers need him to keep developing and he needs to keep fine tuning his game.

The Oilers informed him that weeks ago.
Who really cares at this Point?
Hopefully when he returns there will be a management team in place that ahs a clue about player development.
There won’t be.
Correct, maybe new titles, but the same stooges.
That is the Oilers way.
I agree. But you know what they say, “hope in one hand, s**t in the other and see which fills up first.” This is the Oilers we are talking about. That said, I really hope they make some good decisions with Jesse! There is a player here that needs help to properly develop.
that ship has sailed bud
Wonder how long this has been affecting his play
I think about three seasons now…
In truth what really has been affecting his play is being drafted by the Oil.
Lmao @ Todd
I’m curious too. Any news on that?
Any video of when the injury happened?
When Hitchcock arrived, Jesse got a sliver in his ass being stapled to the bench. That must have hindered him greatly. LOL
9 points on the season… Defined as “breakout” territory?
The only way he will ever develop is by leaving this franchise.
Right on, Lucic and Pully for Brady Tkachuk! Get a GM to make that happen! Wishful thinking………..dare to dream….
Realistically, can he be part of the solution in Edmonton seeing how his first 3 seasons have gone? I know the team messed his development up. But, just looking to the future here.
He has produced nothing at an NHL level and requires a contract.
Just another problem.
Should be cheap!
Surgery on what?
It’s in the first sentence.
HaHaHaHa
He’s getting a tongue tuck against his girlfriends wishes. They said it will help him keep his head up 😉
hopefully his tongue.
Never mind, I should read more carefully
I get the impression this is another one of those stories the Oilers organisation will want to keep quiet. I’m sure there’s already an agreement in place to move him in the off season.
Why is pretty well everything that involves the Oilers a gongshow?
Because Daryl Katz and Chuck Barris have the same hair.
Now that you mention it……
Great line!
That is the one truth
Did the first doctor say he need it surgery, and it was the oilers personal doctor right?
Oilers were going to send JP down to Bakersfield. JP said he wasn’t right and would like doctors too look at hip. Oilers doctors did MRI found the hip problem and recommended surgery. JP then went for a second diagnosis to confirm the recommendation. His doctor said yup surgery best option. That’s the short version of events.
pullithardi wants out. can’t blame him.
This is just another debacle by Oiler management.
Why?
Because the Oilers wasted an opportunity to develop JP in the AHL properly. It speaks volumes that they wait until he’s injured to finally try and send him down so he can play through the injury, that they already knew about. Next year JP is waiver wire except, the Oilers look Mickey Mouse in their handling of JP.
Man i just can’t listen to Stauffer on Oilers now he’s such a company lackie i can’t stand him.
he’s also ugly, and has an aggravating voice! serious breathing problems.
Bobby Clobber was purchased from Team 1260 to shut him up.
Got to wonder how long he has been playing like this. Once better he may be able to reach the potential folks see in him…
No one cares for Yak 2.0
The kid has been given ample chances here, time to go elsewhere this off season after recovery.
good. he’s useless.
If you find yourself making comments like this one, it’s time for you to step back and get some perspective on life. You’re talking about a young man following his dreams and his ability to earn his livelihood – and your response is that it’s “good” that he’s hurt? Grow up.
it’s good in the sense that he’s an abject liability for the oilers, so if he’s not playing for them, they’re already better. it’s better that he follow his dreams elsewhere. I’m also following my dreams and earning a living.
I’m sure there will be lots of talk about how the Oilers did not develop Jesse properly. In this case its all on the player. He had oodles of opportunities 1-4th line in the AHL and NHL, lots of coaching time and he just did not get it, failed to learn English and arrived with an attitude like he was meant for the NHL rather than earning a spot. Next year is his last kick at the cat, hopefully he recovers from surgery and works hard in Bakersfield for the year.
Agree with all of this except the year in Bakersfield – that would require waivers which he would most definitely not clear.
He probably will clear when the team that picked him up from the Oilers sends him down again before he disappears to the K.
He could save a few years by following Currie’s attitude.
Oh man that stat line is disgusting
Bu-by you finish meat ball. ✌?
I suspect he has been damaged goods since the draft. Hence dropping out of the top 3. Best case is he recovers, trains hard and has something to prove in the fall. He might be able to provide scoring depth on the cheap.
KHL
This is the last we will hear from him. Back to Finland and the KHL. Speak to Ilya as to how to retire and come back in a couple of years.
He is worth one more “complete reset” with a new coach next year. He signs a bridge deal worth 2M per year for 2 years let’s see what happens…BTW…he will not accept a 2 way deal based on where he was drafted. No pick that high signs a two way deal. If he says 2M per is not enough pack him up and ship him out for middle to late 1st round pick or player and be done with it.
Seriously? the team is in cap hell and you want them to give that clown a 100% raise? Good luck to the team that picks him up off waivers.
One more thing with Aho and Teravainen both in Carolina how does J.P. not have value there? Carolina has a guy that I would trade straight across for him no questions asked…Martin Necas. See him here…

The commentary on here makes me laugh. When he was drafted, I remember saying he needed to spend at least a year or two in the AHL to develop. This was during a time most of ON still believed in Chia, so it got a lot of thumbs down.
The kid needs a skills coach to help him adapt his game to Canada.
Thumbs downs on crirucal posts tend to be grounded in wishful thinking. The Oil standings and stats lines tell the ultimate story.
*critical
Not that the stat is worth much but only a minus 10? I find that quite impressive considering where his offensive stats are at
