With day one of the NHL Draft in the books and rounds 2-7 still to come, Dusty Nielson is back with another episode of Inside the Nation to break it all down. In today’s episode, Dusty breaks down the Philip Broberg selection from last night, including where he fits on the prospect depth chart, and previews day two with a list of players the Oilers might be interested in with their second round pick.
To kick off today’s edition of Inside the Nation, Dusty starts off with a look at the Philip Broberg pick that kicked a hornet’s nest and whether or not the reaction was justified. For as angry as some folks were, Broberg is a legitimate prospect that may take some time to get up and running but does have the potential to be a real difference maker if he can put it all together. From there, we turn to the second round of the draft and look at which forwards might still be available when the Oilers step up for pick #38. With Broberg taken last night, you’d have to think a forward will be next up, right? We shall see. Lastly, Dusty takes a walk through the rumour mill to see any of the chatter surrounding the Oilers will actually turn into a trade. From what he’s been told, Jesse Puljujarvi will either be traded today or not at all so that will be a storyline to follow all day as we move through day two of the NHL Draft.

Wow talk about the depth at C and D.
Can’t win with ZERO scoring depth and no real starting NHL goalies. An injury to Connor or Leon and this team is drafting top 1-4 next season.
Lucic Sekera Russell Gagner
Can 20 million dollars buy you scoring depth?
Some young guys have the potential to make a jump – Benson Yamamoto etc.
Hopefully we trade Russell, Benning and JP for forwards. Teams who have forward depth and need defenseman will jump all over that. With the cap coming lower than expected and a dried up ufa market on D, this seems very realistic.
It looks like Russell will be gone, but we need to sign some forwards as well as a goaltender.
Lets took our hard-ons back into our pants. We have seen these projected lines for many seasons now. Plugging in the flavour of the day draft pick. This team continues to struggle to get into the playoffs. Fans will start getting excited again when there is actuall on-ice results to back it up. Another new coach and GM…

cutting edge “edit” feature on the way?
I don’t hate the pick but I don’t like it. I think you’re getting Nurse 2.0 where it’s going to take him 4-5 years to become a #3 defenceman. I guess you could argue you need those players in the playoffs, but Zegras is definately a more dynamic player, played a more important position, and fit the team need better. They must’ve seen some warts in his game. Who know? It looks better today because it looks like there is still some dynamic forwards projected to be mid-first round picks left on the board, and if they grab Lavoie, Hoglander, Kaliyev or others they get thier cake and eat it too.
To the admin: It would be nice to have an edit button. My grammar’s not the best on a Saturday morning typing on a cell phone. It would be nice to be able to edit it.
Do the Oilers throw their first round Dman pick into the NHL immediately, or do they ‘develop’ him?
Whoops not dman, cman
no trades for the oilers, this is just sad
It seems that the Oilers are the team that everybody holds out on.
Toronto, devils canucks all making moves,I would like to see something to help us out
