Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
This week in 1993 (Jan. 13), the Edmonton Oilers traded Bernie Nicholls to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Kevin Todd and Zdeno Ciger.
Nicholls had come to Edmonton but a year and a half earlier in the Mark Messier trade making the most of his time with the Oilers. He scored 28 goals and 89 points in 95 games, but with a newborn baby out easy in New York he wished to return to his family.
Thus, the Oilers worked out a deal with the Devils and made a trade. Ciger came in and spent parts of four seasons for the Oilers and was a great player scoring 155 points in 204 games. He left the Oilers in 1996 to return to play in Slovakia.
Todd, meanwhile, played all of 25 games for the Oilers and was dealt to Chicago that offseason.
