Since signing an entry-level contract with the Oilers back in December, Cameron Hebig has been a prospect of interest for Oilers fans as the team continues stocking the shelves with skilled prospects. Hebig just completed his final WHL season, posting a career-best 90 points (41G, 49A) in 66 games split between the Saskatoon Blades and Regina Pats. Looking ahead at the upcoming season, Hebig will make his professional debut with the Bakersfield Condors as he looks to establish himself as an AHL threat. While the idea of Hebig playing with the Oilers may seem far-fetched, he does bring an element of skill that will surely help improve the overall depth of the organization and that, in itself, is worth keeping our eyes on as he moves forward in his career.

In late 2017, JD Burke wrote an in-depth profile on Hebig after he was signed by the Oilers:

If Hebig can develop into an NHL contributor, as unlikely as that may seem at present, that would be one hell of a found wallet. Then again, finding a useful, relatively young player to help guide your prospects along wouldn’t be the worst outcome either. It sounds like the Oilers will get some kind of return on this investment.

At Dobber Prospects, Jameson Ewasiuk wrote about Hebig’s season and what’s to come:

On December 28, 2017, the Oilers signed free agent WHL forward Cameron Hebig to an entry level contract. Hebig is a hard working player with strong skating who uses his speed effectively on the forecheck. Despite his size, he isn’t afraid to engage physically and overall has a solid compete level. Throughout his WHL career he has been utilized in all situations including he penalty kill. Last season, his overage season, where he played for both the Blades and the Pats, Hebig recorded his best season statistically with 41 goals and 90 points, both of which were tied for 15th in the WHL. The trade to the Regina Pats gave him the extra experience of playing in the Memorial Cup where he recorded four goals and six points in five games played. It isn’t uncommon for players to put up big numbers in their overage seasons in the CHL so expectations should remain low for the undrafted free agent signing until we see how he fares in the AHL.

Hebig is a strong skater with good speed and agility. He has great core strength and balance and is very hard to separate from the puck. Cameron played on a weak Blades team this year and was one of the few bright spots. In his third season in the WHL he has shown very steady progression during this time finishing with 69 points this season. He was relied upon to lead a younger group and was a great example in how he was always well prepared and brought an energy and compete to every game.
