Better Lait Than Never Ep. 33 – Jack Campbell, Evander Kane, and an NHL free agency recap
By baggedmilk1 year ago
The NHL’s annual swap and shop kicked off this morning and the Oilers were right in the middle of the action, and that means today’s episode of Better Lait Than Never is all about what our beloved team got done and what holes they still have to get filled.
To kick off the podcast, I got started with a look at the bundle of players Ken Holland was able to get signed today and how impressive it was to get them all on (mostly) team-friendly deals. I mean, just looked at the Evander Kane extension that came down last night… who would have expected the Oilers to get Kane done at basically a fraction of what was the rumoured ask? Then, first thing this morning, the Oilers put their bet down in net with a $25 million deal for Jack Campbell that will see him get the bulk of the starts for the next five seasons. Ken Holland was also able to re-sign Brett Kulak to a team-friendly deal after acquiring him from Montreal at the trade deadline last season. Like Kane, Kulak spent some time checking his options around the league before circling back to the Oilers and inking a four-year deal that will keep him in his hometown. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another round of voicemails to get your take on what’s been going on over the last few days in your life.
