McDavid couldn’t care less about his NHL record

As you all probably know by now, Connor McDavid became the first player in NHL history to factor in on the first eight goals of an NHL team’s season last night. If you ask me, this is a bitter-sweet record to hold. Yes, it’s cool that Connor McDavid is scoring so many points and is such a big part of our team, but with the reality of our team right now, this record solidifies how little everyone else on the team is doing to score goals.
You know who else didn’t seem too thrilled about the record? Connor McDavid himself. Here’s what he had to say about his accomplishment to Gene Principe after the game:
“You know what, it’s whatever. I’m not overly proud of it. I don’t think it’s a stat we should be proud of either. It is what it is but we found a way to get a goal there at the end so we don’t ever have to talk about it again.”
I was a little surprised to hear Connor refuse to comment any further on the record. Especially after the win. I don’t think he was annoyed at Gene for asking about it, but there seemed to be some clear frustration about it. On the other hand, Connor’s the most humble man on the planet so I wasn’t expecting much regarding his comment on the record.
What do you guys think of the comments Connor made? Is this something we shouldn’t read much into? Let me know in the comments!
