This morning, the Edmonton Oilers announced via their social media channels that the team has loaned Cooper Marody to the Dornbirn Bulldogs of the Austrian Hockey League.
Ken Holland continued his run of placing prospects in European leagues to get some at-bats in while we wait for the AHL to resume play, and this time it’s Cooper Marody that will be making his way across the pond to play with the Dornbirn Bulldogs. Like many of his teammates, Marody now has the opportunity to get back on the ice in Austria rather than having to wait for a few more months for the Condors to get going again, which will hopefully help him get back up to form.
Marody, 23, was acquired by the Oilers back in March of 2018 from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a third round pick and has proven to be an interesting prospect to keep tabs on. After a wonderful season with the Bakersfield Condors in 2018-19 that saw him put up 64 points (19G, 45A) in 58 games, Marody ran into some injuries last season and took a step back in terms of production. In 30 games with the Condors, Marody finished his 2019-20 season with five goals and 12 assists for 17 points.
Marody is the latest of many Oilers prospects and youngsters that will be starting their season in Europe as Ken Holland continues to work the phones to find places for his guys to play. At the time of posting, the AHL maintains their hopes of getting started on December 4th, 2020, but that’s still a ways away and moves like this gives many players the chance to keep their legs fresh as many European leagues are already up and running.
