According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Oilers have locked up RFA Zack Kassian to a three-year deal worth a total of $5.85 m while the team reported that four qualifying offers have been tendered.
Kassian will earn an AAV of $1.95 m. He was an RFA this offseason.
In his second season with the Oilers, Kassian scored seven goals to go along with 17 assists for 24 points in 79 games. During the Oilers 13 playoff games, Kassian scored three goals.
The winger was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens on December 28, 2015 in exchange for Ben Scrivens.
Kassian recieves a slight pay increase with his AAV jumping from $1.5 m.
He played a solid depth role for the Oilers this season and it is clear that his talents are something the Oilers have missed. With an increase in his foot speed, Kassian has transformed from a one-dimensional player to a multi-dimensional player for the Oilers.
Kassian played 862:31 of 5v5 this season, where he scored 1.74 P/60. In that time, he posted a career high 53.6 GF%.

QUALIFYING OFFERS

The Oilers also issued a number of qualifying offers to: Leon Draisaitl, Joey Laleggia, Dillon Simpson and Bogdan Yakimov.
The Oilers didn’t offer qualifying offers to Zachary Pochiro, Henrik Samuelsson or David Musil.
Draisaitl just enjoyed a breakout season that saw the 22-year old score 29 goals and pot 48 assists for 77 points in 82 games.
He continued to build off of that with a playoff performance that saw him score six goals and add 10 assists for 16 points in 13 games.
Joey Laleggia made the transition from defenceman to forward this year, scoring 20 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 67 games with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
The 5’9, 183 lb winger was drafted by the Oilers in the 5th round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
In his third year in the organization, defenceman Dillon Simpson scored 11 points in 53 games with the Bakersfield Condors.
The son of Craig and Christine Simpson was a 4th round pick of the Oilers in 2011.
Bogdan Yakimov is an interesting case as the Oilers loaned him to the KHL last July.
In 50 games with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL he scored 11 points. In 93 AHL games in previous years, he scored 43 points.
There must be some indication that the Oilers feel he could come back to North America at some points.
