They aren’t all pretty, but Saturday afternoon the Edmonton Oilers went down to Seattle and stole two big points.
The Day After is brought to you by NHL odds site Betway!
Outshot 37-23 and unable to muster more than 10 in a period, the Oilers got a big boost from Evander Kane as his trio of tallies helped propel Edmonton to victory. Each of his goals was the first scored of the first period, second and third. Talk about helping set the tone.
Kailer Yamamoto, Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid would add goals of their own, and would it really be an Oilers-Kraken game without Jordan Eberle scoring? I mean come on.
The biggest story yesterday, however, was that Oilersnation celebrated its 15th birthday party. If you were there, thank you so much from myself and everyone at the Nation. I hope I did a damn fine job pouring you all shots. If you weren’t there, I still want to thank you. Your support over these last 15 years has been remarkable. We seriously couldn’t do it without all of you, and yesterday was one of those days that made me remember just how amazing the Nation is.

With so much on the go yesterday, I’ll admit I didn’t catch a whole lot of the game. So, I turned to those in attendance for their help in breaking down the game:

Jay Rosehill, former NHL’er and co-host of The Leafs Nation’s Leafs Morning Take

I sat in my stool, sunk myself into the Oilers game and god damn it’s a good day to be in Oilers Country. They got ahead two, I had them -1.5 just loving life. They kept that two-goal lead almost all game long. A little slip-up at the end, that one slipped through Skinner’s torso, basically.
Big win for them. I had my eyes on Connor McDavid like everyone else does and big Evander Kane comes through.

Nick Alberga, co-host of The Leafs Nation’s Leafs Morning Take

The Seattle Kraken are frauds, first and foremost. I thought it was a complete effort. I think moving forward Edmonton needs more of this from Evander Kane. It’s good to see him get off the schneid a little bit. We all bet the Connor McDavid hat trick, but it came in the form of Evander Kane, so you can’t go wrong with that two points baby!

@TheTowelBoy

Probably one of those “should’ve not won games that you won.”

@TravisDakin

Evander Kane should’ve scored more goals.

The Oilers played a solid game. Evander Kane, he needed a hat trick to really get the ball rolling after a couple big injuries. This is exactly what we need from him. We got Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins and Kane making under $16-million combined for the three of them. You need those types of players on phenomenal contracts to be playing a ta high level. We know what Hyman and Nugent-Hopkins have both been doing this year and if Kaner really gets rolling, good night. Look out. I wouldn’t want to be an opponent of the Edmonton Oilers because we know what Connor and Leon are both doing. If Stuart Skinner can play like we know how he can play, this is a tough matchup for any team in the Western Conference. I like this teams odds of making the Stanley Cup finals.

Steven Fiddler, @sfiddler007

Great game by the Oil. Skinner standing tall. Good defensive effort and Kane coming out, we needed that secondary offence. Moving forward, I think we’re in a really good position to go for the Cup.
