A very busy Thursday has landed on your calendars and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through the rest of your week. Today, the guys were talking about the Oilers coaching change, NationGear behind the scenes, the Olympics, and a whole lot more.
To kick off this episode of Real Life, the guys got started with the major news of the day as the Oilers announced this morning that they had fired Dave Tippett after the team lost a second consecutive game in a devastating fashion. Despite the news being surprising to so many of us, there’s no doubt that many Oilers fans were very excited about the change and the possibilities that come with a fresh voice behind the bench. Before the change was made, however, the decision to play Mike Smith in back-to-back situations was one that ultimately proved costly after the veteran netminder was unable to lock things down in his eighth start of the year. Was that decision the one that ultimately cost the coach his job? From there, we looked at what Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson will bring to the table and whether having a new voice can help turn this thing around. From there, the guys got into some Olympics talk as Chalmers revealed that he has a system for watching the games around the time difference. After the boys had a good laugh about the Chalmers system, they wrapped up the podcast with a discussion about how much fun the Olympics have been and how it’s a great time to watch sports that we may not have any exposure to otherwise.
