Throwback Thursday: On this day in 2016, Edmonton Oilers linked to Heritage Classic game

On this day in 2016, the Edmonton Oilers were linked to the 2016 Heritage Classic game by The Associated Press.
According to The Press’ sources, the Oilers were set to take on the Winnipeg Jets at the home of the Blue Bombers.
The game went on Oct. 23, and saw the Oilers bury three-second period goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Jets but that’s after a two-hour sun delay causing some awful glare on the ice.
@Mark Letestu broke open the scoring with a shorthanded tally at the 9:24 mark of the period, before @Darnell Nurse and @Zack Kassian found the net on their own.
Not only did the Oilers and Jets of 2016 play, but an alumni game featured the stars of yesteryear. The Oilers weren’t as lucky as they were in the main game, as a @Teemu Selanne penalty shot goal with 3.6 seconds left secured the Jets a 6-5 game.
The Jets alumni roster was captained by Dale Hawerchuk, while the Oilers team featured franchise staples like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Esa Tikannen.
Oh, and did I mention that the OilersNation rounded up a bunch of Nation citizens and went to the game? Because that totally happened.
