A former Edmonton Oilers defenceman who spent three years with the team has hung up his skates.

Brad Hunt, 37, has announced his retirement from hockey, the NHL Alumni Association shared Tuesday. The undersized, 5-foot-9 rearguard broke into the NHL with the Oilers when he signed an entry-level contract with them in July 2013.

Hunt spent three years in the Oilers’ system from 2013-14, the majority of which was with the AHL affiliates Oklahoma City Barons and Bakersfield Condors, with whom he played 185 games, scoring 43 goals and 142 points. He played NHL games in all three years, totalling 21 games, in which he scored a goal and three points.

He spent the remainder of his career bouncing between organizations. He left Edmonton to sign with the St. Louis Blues in 2016-17 and was claimed on waivers by the Nashville Predators later in the season. He joined the Vegas Golden Knights in July 2017 and was traded to the Minnesota Wild in January 2019. Later in his career, he would play with the Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche, spending the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons as their AHL affiliate Colorado Eagles’ captain. He joined the AHL Hershey Bears for a year, and last season, he played for Sport in the Finnish Elite League.

In total, he appeared in 422 AHL games, scoring 84 goals and 298 points, and 288 NHL games, scoring 26 goals and 86 points. Hunt, a native of Maple Ridge, B.C., won a gold medal representing Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Championship.
