Team Canada required another replacement for the 2026 Olympics.
With Brayden Point being unable to play due to injury, Team Canada turned to Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis as his replacement. This news came two days after Point’s teammate, Anthony Cirelli, was injured and replaced by Sam Bennett.
Jarvis played with Team Canada during the 4 Nations Face-Off last season, picking up an assist in three games. So far through 48 games with the Hurricanes, the right-shot centre has 25 goals and 48 points, which is on pace for 42 goals and 73 points over the course of an 82-game season. That would surpass his career-high of 32 goals and 67 points that he had in 2024-25.
The 24-year-old is likely the right call for Team Canada, given his speed and his ability to play up the middle. That said, one has to wonder what Zach Hyman needs to do to get the call. After missing the first month and a half of the 2025-26 season, Hyman has 22 goals and 36 points in 39 games this season. He’s a proven playoff performer, having scored 16 goals in 25 games during the 2024 postseason.
Although Hyman likely should be on Team Canada’s roster by now, and Evan Bouchard should definitely be on it, Connor McDavid is the lone Edmonton Oiler representing Team Canada. Both Josh Samanski and Leon Draisaitl will play for Team Germany.
Team Canada is in Group A, alongside Czechia, Switzerland, and France. The tournament will kick off on February 11th, with Canada’s first game coming the following day against Czechia. They’ll then play Team Switzerland on February 13th and Team France on February 15th.
Team Germany is in a group with Team USA, Team Latvia, and Team Denmark, with their games coming on February 12th (Team Denmark), February 14th (Team Latvia), and February 15th (Team USA).
