Carter Savoie is turning pro.

The Edmonton Oilers announced on Monday that their fourth-round pick from the 2020 NHL draft has inked a professional tryout contract with the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL.

Savoie just finished off an excellent sophomore season with the University of Denver Pioneers. He scored 23 goals and 45 points over the course of 39 regular-season games and then scored a few clutch goals en route to Denver winning the NCAA National Championship. He led the Mountaineers in goals and finished fourth in the NCAA all told.

One key thing to point out: Signing a professional tryout with the Condors means that Savoie is turning pro and that he won’t be returning to the NCAA next season, but this isn’t the same as signing an entry-level deal with the Oilers. While Savoie isn’t in Edmonton’s plans for this season, this will provide him an opportunity to get his feet wet at the AHL level before he ultimately signs his entry-level contract for the start of the 2022-23 season.

Joining the Condors will be a great experience for Savoie, as the team is gearing up for a playoff run. They have five more regular-season games left and sit fifth in the Pacific Division with a 33-20-10 record.
