Colton Dach is officially under contract.
The Edmonton Oilers announced on Sunday afternoon that they’ve agreed to terms with the restricted free agent. It is a two-year contract with a $1.2 million cap hit.
With this signing, general manager Stan Bowman has scratched off the biggest item left on his summer to-do list. Edmonton may continue to pursue a top-six forward, but otherwise, their restricted free agents are all signed.
According to PuckPedia, the Oilers have roughly $4.725 million in cap space entering the 2026-27 season.
Dach’s dollar figure is below his qualifying offer of $1.32 million. He will still be a restricted free agent when the contract expires in 2028.
The 23-year-old was acquired by the Oilers alongside Jason Dickinson near the NHL trade deadline in March, in a swap that saw the Oilers send Andrew Mangiapane and a 2028 first-round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Dach scored two goals and four points in the eight regular-season games he played with the Oilers, totalling 13 points in 61 games last season. An injury held him out of the lineup in the latter stages of the season, but he suited up for five of the six Oiler playoff games. He registered an assist.
The former second-round pick in 2021 is a hitting machine, ranking in the top-15 across the NHL in hits with 219. This is despite missing over twenty games. It appeared like chemistry was forming with fellow winger Trent Frederic down the stretch, as both were playing a hard forechecking game.
Last season was Dach’s first full year in the NHL. He’s played a total of 83 NHL games, scoring seven goals and 20 points.
Spots in the bottom-six are set to be competitive for Mike Babcock’s group. Edmonton signed Mathieu Joseph in free agency, plus Mattias Janmark is poised to be healthy for training camp. Max Jones and Eduards Tralmaks might get a look, too.
