The 2026-27 National Hockey League season is right around the corner.
On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers announced their themed games over the course of the season, with tickets going on sale on August 27th at 10:00 AM MT.
With the schedule expanding from 82 to 84 games, there’ll be an earlier start date to the season. The Oilers’ first home game is against the Vancouver Canucks on Sept. 29, 2026. It comes following four pre-season games and also serves as the team’s series opener.
The first themed night comes nearly a month later on Oct. 22, as the Oilers host the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, the Carolina Hurricanes, on Indigenous Celebration night. Last season, it was held on January 20th, 2026.
Nov. 7 marks the annual Hockey Fights Cancer game. Founded in 1998, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised over $44 million according to its website. Every team in the NHL has a Hockey Fights Cancer night in their schedule and it goes to a great cause. The Oilers host the Canucks.
Four days later, Nov. 11, the Oilers will have their Remembrance Day game against the Philadelphia Flyers, which will have a pre-game tribute. Similarly, Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation night is on Jan. 17 against the Winnipeg Jets.
There’ll be no themed nights in December, the lone month without one. But on Jan. 9, the Oilers host the New York Islanders and have the Oilers Next Gen night. Four days later, Jan. 13, the Oilers host the San Jose Sharks for Ukrainian Heritage night. The city of Edmonton has a large Ukraine diaspora.
February marks Black History Month, and the Oilers’ game on Feb. 3 is set to be the Black Excellence game, facing the Vegas Golden Knights. Feb. 6 is the Lunar New Year, and the Oilers will have their themed game on Feb. 12 against the St. Louis Blues.
Facing the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 22, the Oilers will host their annual women in sport night. Last season, a portion of the proceeds went toward supporting the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters.
Mar. 9 is the team’s annual Celebrating Pride night, celebrating and supporting the 2LGBTQ+ community. The Oilers are set to host the Los Angeles Kings. Side note: as someone who is a part of the community, it’s nice to be reminded that hockey is for everyone.
There are two other nights toward the end of the season, Mar. 20 game against the Dallas Stars and Apr. 10 game against the Jets. The former will be Celebrating Oil Country, the latter is fan appreciation as it marks the end of the 2026-27 regular season.
