The Edmonton Oilers announced their eight-game pre-season schedule today. It’ll feature seven regular games in North America and one game against a team from the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany.
The Oilers will kick things off on Sept. 17 on the road against the Calgary Flames. They’ll make their first appearance at home on Sept. 20 against the Winnipeg Jets. It’ll be two against Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Calgary. We’ll also get to see one game against the Arizona Coyotes.
After they wrap up their seven standard pre-season games, the Oilers will head over the pond to Europe to take part in the 2018 NHL Global Series Challenge. Both the Oilers and New Jersey Devils will finish off their pre-season in Germany. The Devils will play SC Bern on Oct. 1 while the Oilers will face Kölner Haie, also known as the Cologne Sharks, in Cologne on Oct. 3.
Kölner Haie is coached by Peter Draisaitl, so it’ll be an interesting experience to watch Leon Draisaitl play against a team with his father behind the bench.
“I think it will receive a lot of attention,” said Leon Draisaitl, a Cologne native. “It’s a pretty sport-fanatic city. They love their soccer and they love their sports teams. It’s pretty special for me personally to get to play against [Kölner Haie]. My dad actually coaches the team, so that will be pretty funny to play against them.”
After that, the Oilers and Devils will open up the regular season in Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Oct. 6.
Per the press release, details on individual game tickets for the Oilers pre-season games at Rogers Place will be released in July.
