Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has been named third star of the week.
Draisaitl was red hot over the last week scoring six goals and eight points in four games. He posted one assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche on March 21st.
The following day, Draisaitl scored once in a 5-3 loss to the Dallas Stars. His best performance of the week, however, came Saturday night against the Calgary Flames.
He scored a hat trick and four points in his 18th career four-point performance in what was a tough 9-5 loss.
Draisaitl now has points in eight straight games dating back to March 12th, and in that stretch, he’s scored nine goals and 15 points.
As of Monday morning, Draisaitl sits second in league scoring with 47 tallies on the year, one back of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews. Draisaitl’s 94 points, however, are second in the league to teammate Connor McDavid.
The pair have started to pull away from the pack in the scoring race. Both Johnny Gaudreau and Jonathan Huberdeau have scored 90 points on the season, while Matthews comes fifth with 83 points.
