Here comes the cavalry.
The Edmonton Oilers have activated defenceman Jake Walman and goaltender Tristian Jarry from the Long-Term Injured Reserve, the club announced Tuesday.
Walman, 29, has been out of the Oilers’ lineup since November 20th, when he blocked a shot against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He suffered a deep bone bruise and has been out of the lineup since. It was his second injury of the season, having been banged up in the pre-season, keeping him out of the lineup for the Oilers’ first six games of the year.
He’s drawn in for 17 games this season, scoring three goals and 10 points. Walman signed a seven-year, $7-million AAV contract extension with the Oilers this past summer, a deal that takes effect at the start of the 2026-27 season.
Jarry, 30, is set to return to the Oilers lineup after missing the last month with a lower-body injury. He was hurt in his third start after being acquired by the Oilers in early December, going down early in the second period of a December 18th game. The Oilers appear set to run three goaltenders, with Connor Ingram and Calvin Pickard remaining on the roster.
To activate Walman and Jarry, the Oilers have placed Adam Henrique on the LTIR. He’s been out since the Oilers’ January 6th game against the Nashville Predators after blocking a Filip Forsberg shot two and a half minutes into the game. It was announced that Henrique would be out of the lineup until after the Olympic Break, so his placement on the LTIR comes as no surprise.
The Oilers take on the Nashville Predators Tuesday night in the second half of a back-to-back, before returning home to host the New York Islanders Thursday night. They visit the Vancouver Canucks Saturday, then through the start of February, the Oilers play eight straight home games, before visiting the Calgary Flames on February 4th prior to the Olympic Break.
