Max Jones is heading back to the minor leagues as the Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday morning that he was loaned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
Jones, 27, was recalled by the Oilers on December 11th, and the winger drew in for eight games, scoring a goal and an assist, while also getting into his first fight as a member of the Oilers in Wednesday’s loss to the Boston Bruins.
The Oilers fared well with Jones on the ice, breaking even in five-on-five goals with the opposition at two a piece, and with him on the ice, the Oilers controlled 60.8 percent of the expected goal share, 56.1 percent of the scoring chance share and 66.7 percent of the high-danger scoring chances. In his 60 minutes of five-on-five ice-time, averaging 7:33 per game, he took 12 shots and laid 20 hits, both solid rates for a fourth-liner like Jones.
Now, he’ll return to the Condors with whom he’s appeared in 17 games for this season, scoring five goals and seven points.
Jones joined the Oilers in a trade last March with the Bruins alongside Trent Frederic. He appeared in 19 NHL games last season, scoring a goal and two points, and none in the playoffs. He’s in the second year of a two-year contract paying him $1-million per year, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
