Save the date! The Edmonton Oilers have announced their 2026-27 pre-season schedule.
The puck will drop at Rogers Place on Saturday, September 19, at 6 PM MST against the Winnipeg Jets in their first of four pre-season games.
Here are the dates, with time listed in MST:
  • Saturday, Sept. 19 — Winnipeg @ Edmonton, 6 PM
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22 — Edmonton @ Winnipeg,  5 PM
  • Thursday, Sept. 24 — Edmonton @ Vancouver, 7 PM
  • Saturday, Sept. 26 — Calgary @ Edmonton, 7 PM
The Oilers will have some interesting roster battles to watch for this pre-season. Promising prospects like Quinn Hutson and Isaac Howard are vying for a spot in the opening night lineup, while Mattias Janmark is expected to return and defend his spot on the NHL roster after undergoing surgery in March. While there aren’t many new faces locked into the Oilers roster yet, free agency will change that in a couple of weeks. Edmonton’s disappointing 2025-26 season will certainly prompt some changes, which should lead to a few veterans making their debuts in orange and blue in September.
The Oilers still have an empty spot in their goalie depth chart heading into free agency, and if Connor Ingram isn’t re-signed, we should get at least one look at a new goaltender this pre-season. On defence, Darnell Nurse is Edmonton’s biggest trade chip this summer, after agreeing to waive his no-trade clause earlier this month for a handful of destinations. If the Oilers can swing a big move like that, it should bring in a fascinating new piece to test drive in the pre-season. Up front, Howard and Hutson are the players to watch, but the team is reportedly interested in bringing in a top-six forward this summer too, so we’ll have to wait and see if that comes to fruition.
This pre-season is the shortest one in recent memory for the Oilers, who typically play eight games. The move to cut pre-season games in half coincides with an expanded regular season schedule. Last year, the NHL and NHLPA negotiated an increase from 82 to 84 games in the new collective bargaining agreement. The regular season is tentatively scheduled to begin at the end of September, but so far, only the NHL’s marquee events, such as the Winter Classic, Stadium Series, and Global Series, have definitive dates.
