A trio of black aces are on their way to Edmonton.
The Oilers announced Wednesday night they had recalled forward Brad Malone and defencemen Markus Niemelainen and Cam Dineen from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, who were eliminated from the playoffs last year.
Malone has been in the organization since 2017-18 and drew in for 10 NHL games earlier in the season. Last year, he was a great story getting recalled late in the year and appeared in two playoff games, as well. This season, he scored four goals and 21 points in 41 games with the Condors.
Niemelainen, drafted by the Oilers in the third round of the 2016 draft, has seen 43 NHL games over the last two seasons, but spent the majority of each year with the Condors as well. This year, he appeared in 23 NHL games early in the year, but noticed two goals and seven points in 30 AHL games.
Lastly, Dineen, who was acquired by the Oilers in the Nick Bjugstad trade and subsequently re-signed, had a nice run with the Condors this year down the stretch. He appeared in 19 games scoring two goals and 12 points and helped the club as a puck-mover.
All of the three are highly unlikely to play in any post-season games, but get a chance to hang around the big club for a while as they continue to push through the playoffs.
