The Edmonton Oilers have called up a pair of players days after the AHL Bakersfield Condors’ season ended.
As Bruce Curlock wrote about earlier today, the Condors lost their first-round series against the Abbotsford Canucks in rough fashion. As a result, two players so far have been called up with more likely to come.
Holloway had a great season in the American League this year in what will likely be his last there. While he appeared in 51 NHL games scoring three goals and nine points, he got in for 12 regular season AHL games throughout the year scoring seven goals and 10 points. Holloway dealt with some injuries that stinted his time there, but he was a very productive player — a great sign for what’s to come.
Rodrigue, meanwhile, has his best pro season yet posting a 14-14-1 record, a .912 save percentage and a 2.77 GAA. He’s likely nothing more than a minor league goalie for the organization, but he showed well this season and could return to Bakersfield next season as well. The Oilers did use a 2018 2nd round draft pick on him, so there’s a legitimate investment from the organization’s perspective.
