The Edmonton Oilers are recalling a couple of players they recently sent down.
On Wednesday, the team called up forward Max Jones and defenceman Cam Dineen from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, on an emergency basis.

Jones was sent down to the minors immediately after the Oilers acquired him in a three-team trade with the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils. In the deal, Jones and forward Trent Frederic came to the Oilers from the Bruins, while the Oilers sent forward prospect Shane Lachance to the New Jersey Devils, along with defence prospect Max Wanner and two draft picks to the Bruins.
Jones has played just seven games in the NHL this season, last seeing his name in the NHL lineup on Jan. 25 when the Bruins beat the Colorado Avalanche.
The 27-year-old is in the midst of his first season of a two-year contract that he signed with the Bruins in July of last year. The deal has a cap hit of $1 million. Before signing with Boston, Jones spent part of six seasons with the Anaheim Ducks.
In 265 career NHL games, Jones has posted 31 goals and 31 assists for 62 points.
Dineen was called up just a couple of days ago on emergency basis, but was sent back down to Bakersfield prior to 6-2 loss to the Ducks on Tuesday night. This call up might have to do with the absence of blueliners John Klingberg and Mattias Ekholm at practice on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old hasn’t seen any game action since the 2021-22 season, when he played 34 games for the Arizona Coyotes that year, the only bit of experience in the NHL in his eight-year professional career. Dineen notched seven assists that year, last seeing action on April 29, 2022.
Dineen spent five seasons with the Coyotes organization, the team that took him in the third round, 68th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft. Dineen was traded to the Oilers as part of the deal that saw Edmonton acquire Nick Bjugstad in March 2023.
The Toms River, New Jersey native has posted five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 45 games, leading all Bakersfield blueliners in scoring. He is currently tied for 15th in defence scoring in the AHL.
The Oilers (35-22-4) are second in the Pacific Division, four points behind the Vegas Golden Knights for first.
