The @Edmonton Oilers have announced the recall of @Tyler Benson from the AHL and placed @James Neal on the injured reserve.
Neal had suffered a setback in a foot injury that has kept him out of the lineup since the Oilers played the Calgary Flames on Jan. 29. In 50 games played, Neal has accumulated 19 goals and 10 assists for 29 points while averaging 16:39 in TOI.
Meanwhile, Benson’s recall marks his second in as many weeks. He was brought up on Jan. 30 and appeared in two games against the @San Jose Sharks and @Nashville Predators registering one shot.
This recall might see him in Edmonton for a few weeks as Neal, who was placed on IR retroactive to Jan. 30, nurses his injury and as @Connor McDavid recovers from a quad injury.
Despite a very small sample size in his first two games of just under 15 minutes, Benson was sheltered taking 10 of 12 faceoffs in the offensive or neutral zone. He clipped a raw CF-CA of 14-10, giving him a CF% of 58.33.
Benson, 21, should see more minutes in his recent recall as he averaged only 7:22 in his first taste of NHL action. Benson will meet the team in Tampa Bay, though it is currently unclear as to whether or not he will play.
