The Edmonton Oilers have selected goaltender Ryan Cameron in the seventh round of the 2026 NHL Draft.
The 18-year-old, 6-foot-2, 183 pound netminder spent last season with the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, posting a 24-11-5 record, a 2.92 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage. He spent the 2024-25 season playing 30 games for the NAHL’s Lone Star Brahmas, posting a 21-6-1 record, a 1.24 goals-against average, and a .948 save percentage. That year, he led the league in GAA and save percentage, while also posting a league-high nine shutouts, and was named the NAHL’s goaltender of the year.
“You knew what you were getting every night with him,” said Brahmas head coach and general manager Dan Wildfong. “With some players, younger players, the inconsistency of their game — I coached pro for a long time, and he’s like a pro goalie at a young age. Just knowing that he would make that big save and his character in the locker room, that’s just phenomenal.”
The NHL Central Scouting department had him ranked 33rd among North American goaltenders, and attended the Philadelphia Flyers development camp last July, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jackie Spiegel.
Cameron took part in January’s USA Hockey All-American Game, where he was a standout performer in the eyes of Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis.
Goalies can often be overlooked at a showcase like this, but Cameron had himself one heck of an opening period with 14 saves. Team White was the much faster team, but Cameron continued to turn pucks away and showed quick footwork. Passed over a year ago, Cameron is one of the smaller goalies who makes up for it with pure speed. He can still struggle in the USHL from time to time when reading quality passing plays, but his athleticism is impressive.
Cameron is slated to join the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede next season, and is committed to the NCAA’s Boston College in 2027-28. He’ll join Oilers second-round pick Rudolds Berzkalns there, who is commited to join the Eagles in 2026-27.
