The Edmonton Oilers continued their draft day by selecting Penn State commit Caden Harvey in the sixth round.
Harvey is the 180th overall draft choice, drafted out of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound, right-shot pivot scored 11 goals and 34 points in his first season of major junior hockey in 2025-26.
Described as a “tenacious” player, he was listed as the 188th forward amongst North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He was not ranked by Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis. Elite Prospects listed him much higher at 124.
“It’s on the walls where Harvey is at his best, digging pucks and sliding them into pockets in the opposition’s coverage. There’s a level of forethought in his game, as he actively looks to invite pressure to create space for teammates.” – Elite Prospects Draft Guide.
Harvey won a gold medal with Team USA at the last Hlinka-Gretzky, where he scored two goals in the five games of the tournament. He’s also had experience playing with the US National U17 team.
The Pennsylvania native was an OHL Priority Draft selection after spending the majority of his 2024-25 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins U16AAA squad. He is committed to going to Penn State for the 2027-28 season.
He is the fourth draft pick made by Edmonton on Saturday, who also selected in the second, third, and fifth rounds, taking three forwards and a defenceman so far. They also have a seventh-round pick yet to take to conclude the draft.
Oiler fans should be encouraged by his commitment to Penn State and getting the chance to develop under one of the most respected coaches in the NCAA, Guy Gadowsky.
