The Edmonton Oilers have made a move to shore up their crease, acquiring goaltender Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for future considerations. Utah will retain $800,000 (41.0%) of Ingram’s contract, as first reported by Frank Seravalli and Elliotte Friedman.
Ingram, 28, faced plenty of personal challenges during the 2024-25 season. The native of Saskatoon began last season as Utah’s top goaltender, and went 9-8-4 with a 3.27 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage in 22 games. Some early injuries derailed his season before entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on March 9th following his mother’s passing from breast cancer. Ingram also suited up once for the Tucson Roadrunners where he stopped 28 of 29 shots (.967 save%).
“We’re excited for him and his path to recovery, that’s the biggest thing,” Armstrong added at the time. “He will either get a chance to play for another NHL team or he will go to the American Hockey League and resume his play. But at the end of the day he will be playing and that’s what we’re so excited for.”
Across his career, Ingram has played 102 NHL games over four seasons with Nashville, Arizona, and Utah, compiling a 39-44-15 record, a 3.14 goals-against average, a .902 save percentage, and seven shutouts. Edmonton will be his third NHL organization after starting his career with a three-game cup of coffee in Nashville during the 2021-22 season.
Upon completing the trade, Utah general manager Bill Armstrong released a statement, saying:
“We would like to thank Connor for everything he has done for the organization. He is a class act, great teammate, and we wish him nothing but the best.”
For Edmonton, this deal is the latest attempt to stabilize a position that has been a sore spot for years. The Oilers’ high-powered offence has often been let down by inconsistent goaltending, and the addition of Ingram provides depth and competition as the club looks for answers in the crease.
Whether he can become part of the solution in Edmonton remains to be seen. Ingram has shown flashes of strong play throughout his career, and now the Oilers are betting that a new opportunity, with a stronger roster in front of him, and a change of scenery can bring out that consistency. Only time will tell if this gamble pays off. But as of this morning, the 28-year-old netminder has been assigned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
