Happy deadline day, everybody! As I do every year for the NHL’s annual swap ‘n shop, I’m back with the 2026 edition of the Trade Deadline Live Blog to keep you current on all things Edmonton Oilers and the NHL at large. Instead of doing anything remotely productive today, I’m planting myself in front of my laptop to bring you all of the Oilers-related news, rumours, and trades that may or may not happen until the buzzer rings at 1 PM MT.
Are you ready? Are you excited? Or are you as nervous as I am that we’re going to spend the entire day waiting around for nothing to happen? Either way, I’m inviting you to pull up a chair, relax, talk some hockey with me, and see what this year’s deadline day has to offer for our beloved Edmonton Oilers. We may not know what Stan Bowman will get done or what he has cooking, but at least we can experience the ride together. Will he upgrade the roster beyond the Connor Murphy trade? Will that help Edmonton gain ground in the Pacific Division? We shall see.
Every year when I sit down to write the post for this live blog, I can’t help but think back to how different his day used to be. Specifically, I’m always taken back to my early 20s, when I would literally take the day off work just to park myself in front of the TV, lock in on TSN, and wait for even a smidge of information about the Oilers that would come through the broadcast. From the moment I woke up until the deadline came to pass, that was the only way to get the latest updates.
The other thing I talk and write about every year is the trade deadline that happened back in 2007. That was the day Ryan Smyth got moved to the New York Islanders only minutes after Eklund was on Sportsnet saying that No. 94 had signed a long-term extension in Edmonton. It was a slap to the face. A defining trade that spawned this very website, and the one that always reminds me to be wary of the news and rumours we hear on days like today.
And because the need for real-time and accurate updates has never more important, you ol’ pal Baggedmilk has taken it upon himself to sit here and sit through the noise so you don’t have to. Whether you’re at work, in class, on the toilet, or just looking for a place to follow along and hang out, the live blog will have you covered. Every Oilers update, every move from around the NHL, every trade that we can argue about in the comments section, all in one spot so you don’t have to chase the news.
Let’s get to it…
THE TRADING POST
Digging through Edmonton’s contracts over at PuckPedia, the Oilers have a handful of expiring contracts and questionable deals they could consider moving, provided Stan Bowman wants to go that route. That said, sloppy as they might be, the boys are right in the middle of a playoff push, so I can’t see them sending out much, but I’m also a big subscriber to ‘what the hell do I know’ when it comes to this team. Gord knows that stranger things have happened than a surprise trade or two.
After today’s trade deadline, the Oilers have 20 games left in their schedule. While that may seem like a lot of time, these remaining games are going to rip by in a flash, meaning the Oilers can’t waste time in trying to get everyone on the same page. Will that dictate how many moves Bowman is willing to make? Does he even have the option to move given how many no-move/no-trade clauses have been handed out? I don’t know the answer to those questions, but I do have a list of guys who could hear their name popping up in the rumour mill.
UFAs & RFAs
Adam Henrique (UFA) – Even though Adam Henrique will be a free agent when July rolls around, and we’ve heard his name kicking around lately, I’d be surprised if he waived his no-move clause to head somewhere else. Rico hasn’t had a great season by any stretch, but my gut tells me he’ll be an Oiler down the stretch, whether you’ve mentally spent his $3 million cap hit or not.
Kasperi Kapanen (UFA) – I really can’t see Kasperi Kapanen getting traded. He’s a useful, speedy winger with a little bit of touch that costs next to nothing by NHL money standards, so there’s not even much point in speculating about what trading him might look like. Gord knows I’ve been wrong countless times before, but a Kapanen trade seems highly unlikely at this point.
Curis Lazar (UFA) – Depth guy, gets banged up a little bit, but you never question his effort when he’s on the ice. If Lazar gets moved, I could almost see it happening on waivers, more so than a swap with someone else. In the doubtful but maybe pile?
2026 Draft Picks – As of this morning, the Oilers have their second, third, sixth, and seventh round picks, so we’re not exactly dealing from a position of strength here. Even so, would you be surprised if Stan Bowman cleared the deck? I wouldn’t.
2027 Draft Picks – Next year, the Oilers have two thirds, a fourth, a fifth, a sixth, and a seventh round draft selections. Could any of them go if the deal is right? Absolutely. We’ve already seen Bowman trade a 2nd-rounder from 2028, so why the hell not?
Prospects – If I’m being honest, I don’t know how many of the Oilers’ prospects anyone else wants outside of the small handful that have found their way onto the NHL roster at some point. That said, I’m also smart enough to know that I don’t know jack squat about the Oilers’ depth chart these days, which means that there could be countless options on the table that we don’t know much about. Could Isaac Howard get moved as part of a larger deal? Would Bowman want to do that?
UNDER CONTRACT
Darnell Nurse (four years left at $9.25m, one year left with a full no-move clause) – I’ve seen the speculation. I’ve seen the noise. I watch the games. I know the contract. Even so, I would be absolutely floored if Darnell Nurse gets traded. I would be utterly floored. Not happening.
Ty Emberson (one year left at $1.3m) – I think Ty Emberson is precisely the kind of defensive depth you want to keep, but at the same time, it is getting crowded back there with Connor Murphy in the mix. Maybe? We’ll toss him on the doubtful but maybe pile.
Mattias Janmark (one more year at $1.45m) – It hasn’t been a great year for Mattias Janmark, but given that he just had season-ending surgery on Wednesday, it seems unlikely that he’ll be moved. Rest up, Mattias. We’ll see you back in September.
RUMOURS
Since I’m hanging out at Nation HQ all day with nothing else to do but blog, I’ll be cruising the Internet and social media for Oilers news and rumours so that you don’t have to do it yourself. If I find anything interesting or rumours about what Stan Bowman might be up to today, I’ll pop them in here to keep everything in one spot. If you’re not on Twitter/X, this section will be the place to watch for anything noteworthy from the insiders, beat guys, or otherwise.

Just over an hour out of the deadline and can report there have been no discussions at this point between Canucks and DeBrusk camp about waiving his no trade.
Don’t care about my nonsense and want to skip right to the updates? You can find those here, friend.
8:00 am MT – Rise and Shine, Nation. It’s deadline day and that means we’ve got a full day of staring at our screen ahead of us, as we hope Stan Bowman and his staff can make a move or two to improve the Oilers’ roster for the stretch drive. Yesterday, Bowman said he was pretty much done during his press conference, which doesn’t exactly bode well for this here live blog.
8:50 am MT – If you’re the Capitals players, you can’t be super pumped about the team trading John Carlson to Anaheim.
9:07 am MT – I’m going to be jumping on The Sauce in a few minutes, if you want to check it out.
10:12 am MT – Spector is hinting that the Oilers are definitely interesting in goaltending upgrades. I would be stunned, but that’s what he’s saying.
10:13 am MT – Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Penguins are working on a Stuart Skinner trade.
10:14 am MT – Corey Perry is off to Tampa Bay even though he said he wanted to stay in L.A. Way she goes.
10:17 am MT – Wow Tampa Bay paid a 2nd round pick to L.A. for Corey Perry. Wild.
10:43 am MT – Jordan Eberle looks like he’s signing another extension in Seattle for another two years with a $5.5m AAV.
10:53 am MT – Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bright side? We just ordered a massive Oodle Noodle order for the office.
10:59 am MT – The Spittin Cliclets guys are saying that they’re hearing Bobby McMann to the Oilers. We’ll see.
11:12 am MT – Kris Knoblauch confirmed that Mattias Janmark had his shoulder surgery, and will miss the rest of the season and playoffs. Not new news. Just confirmed.
11:14 am MT – Over at TSN, Darren Dreger reported that the asking price for Oliver Ekman-Larsson was a first-round draft pick, a second-round draft pick, and a prospect.
11:40 am MT – Doesn’t sound like there’s a Bobby McMann coming for the Oilers. Whomp whomp.
11:45 am MT – Sounds like the Avs are getting close to a deal for Bobby McMann. Damn.
12:11 pm MT – We’re in the last hour here, people. Zzzzzzz.
12:22 pm MT – Rishaug just tweeted that the Oilers don’t have much cooking right now. That could change, but it doesn’t seem like anything else is coming.
12:37 pm MT – A few reports coming out on socials that the Oilers sound like they are indeed done.
1:00 pm MT – There’s the buzzer! Anything coming in late? Doubtful.
