The University of Alberta Golden Bears opened camp today and got a new LW...Tyler Benson. Benson, who has 105 points in 120 AHL GP and got into 7 NHL games last season, is skating with the Golden Bears until he "likely" gets assigned to a European team.

Edmonton Oilers forward Tyler Benson has started skating with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.
Benson, who split time between the Bakersfield Condors and Oilers last year, is skating with the Golden Bears as he awaits a likely assignment to a European team, 630 CHED’s Bob Stauffer reports.
It’s great to see Benson skating and the fact that he’ll likely be heading to Europe. If he does head overseas to start the season, he’ll join a large contingent of fellow Oilers already getting their season underway.
Here’s the full list of where Oilers players will be playing this fall:
- Evan Bouchard was loaned to Allsvenskan
- Ryan McLeod loaned to EV Zug of the Swiss league
- Gaetan Haas loaned to SC Bern of Swiss league
- Joakim Nygard has been loaned to the SHL’s Farjestad
- Raphael Lavoie appears to be heading to play for the SHL’s Rogle BK
- Phillip Broberg was loaned to Skelleftea AIK of the SHL
- Theodor Lennstrom was loaned to Frolunda HC in the SHL
- Dmirti Samorukov was loaned to the KHL’s CSKA Moscow
It’s going to be great for all of these players to kick off their seasons. Them, including Benson, are all a contingent of players that will be competing for roster spots ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Benson, Bouchard, Nygard, and Haas are some of the best bets to make the Oilers roster next year.
