It appears the Edmonton Oilers will be loaning forward Gaetan Haas to SC Bern of the Swiss hockey league.
A report from The Athletic’s Daniel Nugent-Bowman Tuesday said Haas will be kicking off his season in Switzerland which like many other European league, are getting closer to kicking off their 2020-21 seasons.
Haas is the latest of many Oilers to be loaned overseas to kick off the season.
- Joakim Nygard has been loaned to the SHL’s Farjestad
- Raphael Lavoie appears to be heading to play for the SHL’s Rogle BK
- Phillip Broberg was loaned to Skelleftea AIK of the SHL
- Theodor Lennstrom was loaned to Frolunda HC in the SHL
- Dmirti Samorukov was loaned to the KHL’s CSKA Moscow
I’d imagine there’s a few other Oilers who will be heading overseas to start their years. I could see Joakim Nygard, for one, being a player that would start his year in the SHL. Maybe Oscar Klefbom given his roots?
There’s been talk that more bonafide NHL’ers would start their years too and be willing to play for only room and board rather than take a salary.
