All of Canada is getting a taste of what it’s like to be an Edmonton Oilers fan by watching Connor McDavid create magic on the Olympic ice.
Across the country, fans celebrated Friday when Canada’s top line centre scored his first goal as an Olympian en route to a 5-1 win over Switzerland.
A moment many have waited years to witness, a moment McDavid dreamed of since he first skated on a sheet of ice. Not only did his goal garner attention, but he’s also brought the physicality to Milan, which has caught many by surprise. On social media, fans had a lot to say about 97’s current play for Team Canada.

It has really been Connor McDavid who has shown in Italy as the superstar, putting up six points in two games for Canada at the Winter Games. Making the most of this experience, reminding Canadians and hockey fans alike of what they’ve missed over the years because NHL players weren’t at the Olympics.

Next up for Canada will be a Sunday morning game against France, and the real question is how many points McDavid will put up against them, as they are viewed as one of the weaker opponents in the tournament. For now, however, it’s nice to see non-Oilers fans truly appreciate 97’s magic.
