Game Highlights 20.0: Edmonton Oilers beat Anaheim Ducks 8-2

The Edmonton Oilers returned home from their four-game road trip and hammered the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 8-2. Connor McDavid led the way with five points while Stuart Skinner stopped 21 of 23 shots for the win. Below are the highlights from the game.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS PRESENTED BY BETWAY
The Ducks came out of the gate quickly and opened the scoring a few minutes into the first period. Max Jones drove through Edmonton’s zone and buried a pass from Brett Leason to make the score 1-0.
That early lead didn’t last long as Evander Kane tied the score at 1-1 just over one minute later. Similar to Jones’ opening goal, Kane snuck into Anaheim’s zone, took a pass from Connor Brown, and wired a shot five-hole on Lukas Dostal.

The Ducks went back on top not long after thanks to Jones’ second goal of the game. Jakob Silfverberg fired a puck from the point, Jones stopped it, turned around, and fired a shot past Stuart Skinner.

Again Anaheim’s lead didn’t last long, as Connor McDavid tied the score at 2-2 later in the first frame. Darnell Nurse sprung the Oilers on a three-on-one and McDavid kept the puck and sniped a shot blocker side on Dostal.

After that, it was all Oilers. Ryan Nuget-Hopkins gave Edmonton their first lead of the game after another excellent pass from Nurse sprung him on a breakaway.

The Oilers extended their lead to 4-2 before the end of the first period. Edmonton won the faceoff in Anaheim’s zone, Vincent Desharnais fed the puck down low to Connor McDavid, and he found Zach Hyman waiting beside the net for an easy one-timer.

In the second period, James Hamblin added to Edmonton’s lead with the second goal of his career and first on home ice. The Edmonton native had his shot blocked but picked up his own rebound and fired it past Dostal to make the score 5-2.

Zach Hyman added his second goal of the game later in the second period to make the score 6-2 for the Oilers. Connor McDavid sent him in on a breakaway and Hyman deked out Dostal for Edmonton’s sixth goal on 16 shots. Dostal was pulled in favour of John Gibson after this goal.

The Oilers added to their lead in the third period with a couple of power-play goals. First came a one-timer from Leon Draisaitl that made the score 7-2, and then, with a little over five minutes left in regulation time, Mattias Ekholm scored to make it 8-2.
