The Edmonton Oilers capped off their three-game swing against Pacific Division opponents with a 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, their second defeat of the trip.
For the Kings, it was the team’s first win of the Jim Hiller era, as Los Angeles fired head coach Todd McLellan during the All-Star break. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Trevor Lewis scored in the second period for the Kings, Quinton Byfield added two goals in the third frame to extend the lead, and goaltender David Rittich made 26 stops for his first shutout in over three years. Below are the highlights from the game.

After a scoreless first frame, the Kings finally opened the scoring early in the second period while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was in the penalty box for tripping. Pierre-Luc Dubois wired a shot from the faceoff circle that made its way over Stuart Skinner’s blocker side.
The Kings added to their lead under one minute later. Quinton Byfield broke the puck out of Edmonton’s zone and went up ice on a two-on-one with Trevor Lewis. Byfield fed a pass across the slot and Skinner wasn’t able to get across the crease in time and Lewis buried a one-timer past his glove.

Byfield continued his huge game in the third period with a pair of goals. The first goal was about seven minutes into the third and dissolved any hope that the Oilers might have had about making a late-game comeback. Byfield made a pass to the point and then grabbed the rebound and wired a shot past Skinner to make the score 3-0. He added an empty netter with under three minutes left on the clock for his second of the game.

Things got a little chippy between the Oilers and Kings in the latter part of the third period. There was no escalation to the point of a fight but you know that both teams have the next meeting in Edmonton in a couple of weeks circled on their calendars.
