That might have been the best game of the season for the Oilers.
On Friday afternoon, the Oilers were hosted by the Washington Capitals for a Thanksgiving matinee, and they defeated the 2018 Stanley Cup Champions by a score of 5-0. This brings their record to 6-12-1 on the season. 
Let’s take a look at Oilersnation’s Player of the Game, as well as things worth mentioning.

Oilersnation’s Player of the Game: Connor McDavid

It looks as if Connor McDavid has found his game. On Friday, he assisted on four of Edmonton’s five goals, giving him 14 assists and 20 points in 17 games.
The 26-year-old has quietly been picking it up in recent times, as he has 10 points in his last six games after being held pointless for three games. Edmonton needs to get it going, and McDavid getting hot will certainly help.

Things worth mentioning…

Leon Draisaitl also had his best game in recent times, scoring two powerplay goals and picking up an assist. The 28-year-old has six goals and 23 points in 18 games, and leads the team in that category.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had his best game since early in the season, scoring a nice batted goal, while also picking up two assists. He has three goals and 14 points in 18 games so far.
Evander Kane can’t stop scoring, as he scored his eighth of the season, giving him 16 points. Kane now has six goals in his last six games, and has been a driving force in the top six.
Stuart Skinner registered his first shutout of the season, saving all 25 shots he faced. While Washington didn’t have many high-danger opportunities, it’s good to see Skinner close the door. He now has an .865 save percentage in 13 games played this season.
Edmonton’s power play looked like its 2022-23 self. Three of their five goals came a man up and they finished 3 of 4 on the man advantage. Moreover, they killed off all five penalties they took, so special teams were certainly a plus on Friday afternoon.
The Oilers will be back in action on Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 PM MT. They’ll look to keep the good times rolling, as a wild card position is still in sight.
