Sometimes your favourite hockey team wins, and other times you never want to watch the sport again. Monday’s game was one of the latter, as the Oilers fell 5-0 to the Jets, losing for the second night in a row.
Unlike Sunday’s post-game article, there’ll be no player of the game. It&#8217;s pretty difficult to find one of those when you lose 5-0. Instead, we’ll just focus on some observations.

<h2>Things worth mentioning…</h2>
Philip Broberg needs to make an impact in some capacity this season. The Oilers will utilize seven defensemen often, and even though he’ll be on his off-hand, he needs to be that player the Oilers thought they were getting when they made him their first pick back in 2019.
Raphael Lavoie was probably the most engaged Oiler on the ice, taking four shots while also getting called for a weak call that killed the Oilers&#8217; two-man advantage. It’s not a matter of if he’ll play for the Oilers this season, but when.
Dylan Holloway also had four shots in the game. There’s a very chance the former first-rounder will make it out of camp in October. Last season, he scored three goals and nine points in 51 NHL games, while scoring seven goals and 10 points in 12 games during a stint in the American Hockey League.
Xavier Bourgault has sick hands, as I’ve noted before. He’s still a few seasons away, but one has to figure he’ll do better than the 13 goals and 34 points he had for Bakersfield last season. If any of these three prospect forwards hit, that’ll be huge for the Oilers.
Undisciplined play sunk the Oilers. They took six penalties, with the Jets scoring on two of them. While the game eventually ended 5-0, the Oilers were still in the game until halfway through the third period. Need to tighten that up before the season starts.
Oh where oh where is Connor McDavid? I know it’s pre-season, and I know why he isn’t playing, but man it sucks not seeing him play, even when the games are meaningless.
Next up&#8230; It wasn’t a very strong lineup, so a loss wasn’t out of the question. The Oilers will take on the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday at 7:00 PM MDT, hopefully, that goes better!
