On Saturday evening, the Oilers took on the Los Angeles Kings in a battle of the first round the past two playoffs. Like always, the Edmonton Oilers prevailed in a one-goal game, outlasting the Kings to win 3-2 in a shootout for their fourth consecutive win.

Oilersnation’s Player of the Game: Connor McDavid
The best player to ever lace up skates made his mark on Saturday, in his 600th game no less.
McDavid scored his 13th goal of the season with his patented shot off the helmet play, with the victim being former Oiler goaltender Cam Talbot. McDavid also assisted on Edmonton’s game-tying goal, while scoring a goal in the shootout.

Since November 20, McDavid has nine goals and 34 points in 17 games played. Overall, he has 47 points which is seventh-most in the league, trailing a handful of players by a single point, including David Pastrňák, William Nylander, and J.T. Miller.
He trails the league leader, Nikita Kucherov, by 12 points, but if anyone can catch up to him, it’s McDavid.
<h1>Things worth mentioning</h1>
The first period wasn’t great. The Kings shutdown the Oilers, allowing just two shots while putting 11 shots on Stuart Skinner, who had a terrific game. It was similar to Game Four of the two teams’ playoff series, as the Kings jumped out to an early lead, but the Oilers fought back.
Stuart Skinner made several key stops in the first period which kept the Oilers’ heads above water. Overall, he finished with 26 saves on 28 shots for a .929 save percentage. This was Skinner’s third straight game with a save percentage above .900, which is the first time it’s happened this season. He’s been a big part of why Edmonton has turned their season around.

Leon Draisatil scored his 16th goal in his regular form, a one time in front of the goal which tied the game at two. Draisaitl has 16 goals and 37 points in 33 games this season, significantly lower than his scoring pace in 2022-23.

Evan Bouchard picked up an assist on McDavid’s goal, giving him nine goals and 35 points on the season. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up the only other point in the game on this goal as well.
Derek Ryan took a beating, drawing a third period penalty to give Edmonton a power play, among other hits. However, he got the last laugh as he beat Talbot to win the game in the shootout.

It’s a quick turnaround as the Oilers will remain in the Los Angeles Metro, facing the Anaheim Ducks at 6:00 PM MT on New Years Eve. Edmonton is now two wins above .500 with their four straight wins, giving them 35 points in 33 games. They are five points out of playoff spot, but have at least a game in hand on the other four teams ahead of them in the standings.
