Let’s get on to the real hockey.

On Friday evening, the Oilers took on the Seattle Kraken in their final pre-season game, defeating the newest team in the league  3-1.

Here’s the Oilersnation’s Player of the Game, as well as things worth mentioning.

This was Kane’s best game of the preseason, scoring a goal and also assisting on another one,.

The 2022-23 season was a tough one for Kane. He scored 16 goals and 28 points in 41 games, but also suffered a scary injury in Tampa Bay that kept him out for months.

If the 32-year-old can capture the form he had in 2021-22 where he scored 22 goals and 39 points in 43 games, the league will have even more issues shutting down Edmonton’s potent offence.

Ben Gleason had a great preseason with the Oilers. Only time will tell if he’ll be in the organization come the start of the season, but the 25-year-old defender definitely wants it. Last season with Dallas’ American Hockey League team, the left-shot d-man had nine goals and 33 points in 68 games.

Evan Bouchard finished the game with two assists, getting the first assist on a Connor McDavid goal, and his second on Kane’s goal. The 2022-23 season was Bouchard’s second straight strong season, where he scored eight goals and 40 points in 82 games, just below his 12 goals and 43 points in 81 games the season prior.

Connor McDavid scored Edmonton’s opening goal on a tap-in from Evan Bouchard. Not much else needs to be said about McDavid’s career year in 2022-23, other than to expect a repeat performance, perhaps even better.

Jack Campbell has looked like the goaltender the Oilers’ gave the big bucks to. He faced 36 shots from the Kraken, only allowing a single goal. If  he can continue to play like this in the regular season and beyond, that’d help the Oilers exponentially.

Zach Hyman had the other Edmonton goal on the power play. Like Kane, if Hyman can be Edmonton’s “second scoring” while putting up 50-60 points, this offence will be unstoppable.

The real season starts this upcoming Wednesday, where the Oilers take on the Vancouver Canucks in British Columbia at 8:00 PM MDT. It can’t come soon enough.
