The three-game losing streak has come to an end.
On Tuesday evening, the Edmonton Oilers concluded their five-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators. With the win, the Oilers have snapped their three-game losing streak. Let’s take a look at what happened in this one!
The first goal came late in the first period. Thanks to a Senators penalty, the Oilers ended up on the power play, where Ryan Nugent-Hopkins found Connor McDavid from behind the net. The Oilers captain sniped it top corner for his first goal of the season.
It was another first for an Oiler, as Ike Howard scored his first career goal. Early in the second period, McDavid forced a turnover. Leon Draisaitl picked it up for a two-on-one, passing it to Howard for a one-timer goal.
Heading into the second intermission down two, the Senators opened up the third on the power play. It took just 13 seconds for them to cut the Oilers’ lead in half, and less than two minutes later, they tied the game thanks to Thomas Cahbot’s first of the season.
Thankfully, the Oilers were able to pick up the win. Midway through overtime, the Oilers’ power play was set to come to an end, but a faceoff win and a Jake Walman blast beat Linus Ullmark for the 3-2 win.

Takeaways…

It was a night of firsts for the Oilers. Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the season, Ike Howard scored his first career goal, and Jake Walman played his first game of the season, scoring his first goal of the season.
Tuesday’s game marked the 1,000th career game played by Adam Henrique. This is another first, as Henrique is the first player in Oilers’ history to play his 1,000th game in an Oilers jersey. He was solid in this game.
On top of Howard picking up a goal, Matthew Savoie had a strong game, picking up an assist on Walman’s goal by winning the faceoff. He was all over the place, winning puck battles and killing penalties.
Between the pipes, Stuart Skinner saved 19 of 21 shots for a .905 save percentage, but that doesn’t tell the whole story as he secured his 100th career win. Skinner has noticeably made more big saves this season, including the one you can watch below.
Next up for the Oilers is a brief stop at home, as they fly back to Edmonton to host the Montréal Canadiens on Thursday, before hitting the road once again. Thursday’s game has a 7:00 PM MT start time.
