William Lagesson is in the SHL now, fresh from a strong performance in Edmonton Oilers camp. We haven’t seen Lagesson much since he was drafted in 2014, although his performances at the World Juniors in 2015 and 2016 gave us some indication about the player.
SIGNING LAGESSON
- AGM Keith Gretzky, via Oilers Now: “William’s a big, stay-at-home defenceman. He’s a little older, bigger, stronger and he needs to play more games. This will really help him and his development.” Source
The club also announced Lagesson would be loaned to Djurgardens IF of the SHL for the 2017-18 season, possibly because there were so many young defenders already heading to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
TODAY
Lagesson played today, playing 19:52 in a win for Djurgardens IF (here). He played a lot, and it looks like he played well. Here, courtesy blog contributor “Swedish Poster” is the single best comment from a coach I personally have ever seen:
- Djurgården coach Robert Ohlsson on Lagesson: “He was King! He was exactly as good as I had hoped for. He showed such great poise and matter of factness to his game. He was damn good!”
Awesome. We’ll follow Lagesson all winter long in the “Weekend Update” series, hopefully bringing you quotes like the one above.
