The Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights will begin their second-round series this week.
Vegas will host Games 1 and 2 on Tuesday and Thursday, and then the series will shift to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Monday.
This will be the second playoff meeting between the Oilers and Golden Knights. Vegas beat Edmonton in the second round in six games in 2023 en route to their first-ever Stanley Cup Championship.
The stage is set similarly this year. Like in 2023, the Golden Knights finished at the top of the Pacific Division standings during the regular season. Though they aren’t the second seed like two years ago, the Oilers are again coming off a first-round victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
The Golden Knights went 50-22-10 in 2024-25, earning their fifth division banner in eight seasons since joining the NHL. The Oilers went 48-29-5 during the regular season, ending a streak of five consecutive seasons in second place in the division.
The regular season series between the Golden Knights and Oilers was evenly matched this year, with each team winning two of four games.
The first three matchups came early, all before mid-December. Vegas took the first two games, winning 4-2 and 1-0. Edmonton responded strongly in the third, jumping out to a 5-0 lead and eventually securing a dominant 6-3 victory.
After the trade deadline, the teams met once more, showcasing rosters closer to their current lineups. Edmonton edged out Vegas 3-2 in that matchup. Jake Walman, the only deadline acquisition from either team to make the scoresheet, opened Edmonton’s scoring. It marked his first (and so far only) goal as an Oiler.
