The Oilers’ top last-minute goals of 2025-26

This summer, Oilersnation will recap the top five Edmonton Oilers goals, the top five fights, and the top five overall moments from the up-and-down 2025-26 season.  
There’s just something special about the Oilers’ goals with the netminder pulled in the dying seconds. I’m not sure if it’s because Jack Michaels is terrific at his job, or the horn-and-pounding-beat goal song they have, but these goals send a shiver down my spine. 
I think it stems from Jordan Eberle’s game-tying goal in the semifinals of the 2009 World Junior Championship. We’ve already looked at some honourable mentions for goals, but these five goals deserve their own section.
In this article, we’ll look at the five late goals that tied the game this past season.

Which last-minute goals stood out for the Oilers in 2025-26?

The Oilers had a knack for scoring these types of goals in the 2025 postseason; who could forget Evan Bouchard’s goal in Game 4 of the first round against the Kings? If they lose that game, the Oilers don’t go back to the Stanley Cup Finals. Those goals carried into this past season as well.
The first of these goals came on Nov. 10, one of the more notable games for the Oilers this past season. That game against the Columbus Blue Jackets is one that keeps showing up in this list (and will again), and for good reason. Down by two with just over six to play, Connor McDavid got the Oilers to within one.
But with 2:18 left in the game, still down one, Jack Roslovic took a high-sticking penalty, thus ending any hope the Oilers had, right? Wrong. With less than a minute left in the game, the Oilers’ forecheck forced a turnover. Jake Walman activated from the point, took the puck and attempted to pass it. Instead, it bounced off a Blue Jackets’ stick and into the back of the net.
Roslovic made up for his late penalty, scoring the overtime winner, which we’ll cover in the honourable mentions article for top Oilers moments this season.
One game that received a late goal that was already mentioned on the top moments list was the Oilers’ comeback victory against the Washington Capitals on Jan. 24. Not only did this have the first Oilers’ hat trick scored by a defenceman in two decades, and the first of two consecutive games, it also had a late goal.
Down 5-4 with their netminder pulled, the Oilers had zone time and Bouchard’s slapshot missed the net. The puck found its way back to Bouchard, then to McDavid, who funneled it to the front of the net. Standing there was Zach Hyman, who tied the game up, leading to the Oilers’ eventual victory. 
This was the first of two goals Hyman scored with the net empty. With under 90 seconds to play against the Senators on March 3. Of the five goals in this category, this was the one with the most time remaining, and there wasn’t a whole lot special about it. Just a regular Hyman tap-in.
The latest game-tying goal the Oilers scored in the 2025-26 game against the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 9. Entering the third period down 3-0 at home, McDavid got them on the board shortly after the puck dropped. Then less than two minutes later, the Oilers got a second one.
But they were unable to get that game-tying goal, that was until the Sabres left McDavid all alone with the puck with a literal second left on the clock. Even knowing what happened in this game (the Oilers lost in overtime) and the season (let’s not go over it), this goal sent shivers down my spine. From the Sabres’ point of view, surviving this comeback was the catalyst for breaking their playoff drought.
If I had a nickel for every time the Oilers were down 3-0 heading into the third and scored a late game-tying goal, I’d have two nickels. The next one came on Jan. 29 against the San Jose Sharks. Once again, the Oilers scored early into the final frame, but didn’t find the back of the net again until 3:05 to play.
Down to the final minute once again, Mattias Ekholm did a terrific job to keep the puck in. Bouchard wisely didn’t touch the puck, and the puck was passed down low to Leon Draisaitl. Ekholm was being pressured by a Shark, which opened up a seam for Draisaitl to pass to Bouchard at the blue line. The defenceman slightly shifted his angle and ripped it past Yaroslav Askarov to tie the game.
This time, however, the Oilers completed the comeback, as Hyman scored a power play goal 66 seconds into the overtime period.
These goals may not be the prettiest, in fact, none of them are conventionally nice, but they’re special in their own right. It helps that all five of these goals were scored on home ice with Jack Michaels and Louie DeBrusk on the call too.
